Professor Corner: David Fagan

End-of-session summary with David FaganHELBUS recently had the pleasure to welcome David Fagan of the Open University Business School in the UK as a guest lecturer in finance.

Reflecting on his three weeks with us, David asked himself what was it like working with HELBUS students? He concluded that ‘Helbus students are mainly focused, keen to learn and able to research things and self-discover’ and that ‘most students are very task orientated – in this case, wanting to achieve all the tasks in the assignment brief’. This discovery led David to re-evaluate how he approached his time in the classroom, deciding to ‘cut back my directed input and set them more directed tasks to do’. Happily, our students engaged with this new approach and many took photos of the graphic end-of-session summarisations portrayed on the whiteboard. The students also clearly benefitted, with more time to spend developing their level 4 and 5 analytic and evaluation skills.
