William D. Danko: How Millionaires Really Became Millionaires

William D. Danko is an American researcher and professor emeritus whose book, The Millionaire Next Door, remained on the New York Times best seller list for three years.

The book is based on scientific research that William Danko and his colleague Thomas J. Stanley did on how American millionaires have actually accumulated their wealth.

The results of the study are, to put it mildly, surprising. First of all, a typical millionaire, according to Danko, cannot even be identified by his clothing, car, or lifestyle.

“These people cannot be millionaires! They don’t look like millionaires, they don’t dress like millionaires, they don’t eat like millionaires, they don’t act like millionaires – they don’t even have millionaire names. Where are the millionaires who look like millionaires?”

Vice president of a trust department following a focus group interview of millionaires.
