International Applicants

If you are a Finnish citizen or a citizen of an EU or EEA-country, or if you already have a residence permit in Finland for other reasons, please click here for further information.

Are you interested in studying business in Finland? You have come to the right place. Finns are known for their modesty and low-key expression of the virtues of their homeland, but we do have a lot to show for based on international research! Did you know that Finland has been selected as the “happiest place in the world”. Read more about how Finland fares in international comparison.

This page is for you, if you are a non-EU citizen and would need a residence permit for your studies. HELBUS is a private business school in Helsinki that offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business and management in partnership with the University of Northampton in the UK, and welcomes applications from suitable candidates around the world.

Getting started:

  1. Read more about the undergraduate programme here. If you already have an undergraduate degree, find out more about our MBA here. All programmes are delivered fully in English.
  2. Read below about student residence permits. Consider if you have the right justification for applying for a residence permit for “other studies”.
  3. If yes, read carefully the application instructions and start filling in your application here. Here are the application deadlines.
  4. After your application has been reviewed, there may be an interview over Zoom, if needed. You will receive your provisional acceptance letter and payment instructions by email within a few weeks of applying.
  5. As a condition for residence permits, the first year’s tuition fees must be paid before applying for the residence permit. Please check the fees for the Bachelor’s programme here and MBA-programme here.
  6. After you have paid your tuition fee, you will receive the Official Acceptance Certificate with which you can apply for a residence permit from Finnish Migration Services Migri. Ensure your passport is valid for the entire length of the studies and if needed, renew your passport before applying for the residence permit. Our friendly admissions staff will support you throughout the process. It may take several months before your residence permit application is processed. An appointment to visit to the Finnish embassy in your country is normally required.
  7. Please do not make any other financial commitments before receiving your residence permit.
  8. The New Student Letter will be sent to you after you inform us about the residence permit outcome, and will contain important information about preparing for your arrival and the first few weeks of study. We will send you a thorough “Welcome kit to studying in Finland” which will help you prepare.
